Townhouses in Bedzin
The Maria Konopnicka Estate (informally called “Pekin”) is situated along the street with the same name in the Grodziec district of Będzin. It comprises approx. 30 townhouses created as dwellings for workers of the nearby Grodziec Black Coal Mine (closed in 1998 and demolished) and the Grodziec Cement Factory (closed in 1979 and falling into ruin). The appearance and layout of the townhouses are reminiscent of the most popular district of Katowice – Nikiszowiec.
Apart from residential buildings, at Konopnickiej Street is also the building of Primary School No. 6 (designed in a similar style) and the Church of the Blessed Honorat from Biała. The street is approximately 1 kilometre long and features parking bays on the eastern side.
