The coal mine housing estate

A district of Bogucice is located in a city centre of Katowice. Markiefki and Ścigały streets are central and at the same time the oldest locations of the district. Leopolda Markiefki street runs from the crossroads with Leopolda street to Walentego Roździeńskiego avenue and is 906 meters long.

Along the street there are 20th century buildings of the coal mine housing estate and middleclass tenement houses. The most characteristic to Markiefki street and parallel to it,  Ścigały street are red-brick familok houses [multi-family houses built for coalminers]and their backyards. The buildings haven’t been restored and are going to ruin, which brings back the zeitgeist of the time when they were erected.
