Pope’s Square

Located in Sosnowiec, by Gwiezdna Street Pope’s Square is one of the vastest areas in Zagłębie. With its open green space it is one of the most popular meeting spots for the city dwellers.

The pope John Paul II met here with the faithful in 1999. During the same year the cross commemorating this event was erected in the square premises.

 

In 2006, the monument was replaced with the statue made of cast iron by Jan Funk, the sculptor. The barge was added in 2009.

There are numerous parking spots as well as the green belts with the benches around the square. Apartment buildings are located in the close proximity.
